Air Purifiers: An Investigation of the Types and their Benefits

Considering the amount of irritants that are present in the air today, those who suffer from allergies and other breathing disorders are challenged to find energetic ways to clean the air that they breathe within their home environment.

Not so many years ago, this simply meant making sure that the house was dusted regularly and that pets were bathed and brushed outdoors as often as possible, in order to cut down on the most common allergy inducing factors. Today, theres far major at stake, when we consider the types of contaminants that are present in our environment as a result of pollution. Bigger challenges, then, require better tools for providing a solution enter, the Air Purifier.

The cleaning of the air within your home can be accomplished in a variety of different ways. A simple, straightforward air cleaner is designed to reduce the dust build-up within the home, offering the benefits of cleaner air and less need to perform common household chores, such as dusting. These are electronic in nature and use a basic filtering system thats designed to draw in, clean and re-circulate the air.

Air purifiers are a bit farther complex, in that they are specifically designed to eliminate pollutants such as pollen and other airborne irritants, in addition to the dust that the air cleaner removes from the environment.

These purifiers are available in a number of sizes, including the portable version. In this case, the air is drawn to the bottom of the cleaner and is then pushed upward through an aluminum mesh filter. This is where the pollutants are trapped before the air is moved on to the next phase of the process.

An electronic cleaning cell (two-stage) is the next stop for the airflow, which ionizes dust particles that are invisible to the naked eye and cleans them from the air. From there, the air is diverted to an activated charcoal filter which deodorizes any odors that may rechief before the air is re-circulated.

An electronic Air Purifier should be placed in an area where the highest amount of family traffic takes place, though it can be installed in any room of the home. Complete with a two-speed fan that can typically clean an area of up to 300 cubic feet when on the highest setting, this type of Air Purifier would be ideal for a room that measured 20 x 30.

As economical as it is useful, an electronic Air Purifier doesnt require any special wiring, and uses less electricity than that of a 100-watt light bulb.

The electric air cleaner is utilized by placing it in the central duct system, and cleans the air through the process of electrostatic precipitation. Basically, this just means that when the furnace blows smoke and other contaminants into the air, they are forced into a filter, then a charging station that provides charges from tungsten wires.

From there, any recardinaling particles are forced into a collection area, where theyre trapped and washed away by the cleaning process. Charcoal filters are in position to eliminate any leftover odors from the air, which is then forced out into the home for re-circulation.

Depending upon the design of your home, your economic constraints and the level of allergies that your family members possess, theres a system that will work for you. Once the air in your home is properly cleaned and purified, youll all be breathing much easier.

A Review of Ecoquest Air Purifiers

Posted in Air Purifier on December 30th, 2009

Ecoquest markets a product developed by Alpine industries. The
Ecoquest Air Purifier comes in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Their middle sized unit is called the Breeze AT. The next size
up is the Classic and their new flagship product is the Fresh
Air.

The prices for the Ecoquest Air Purifiers range from $400 to
close to $900. This seems like an outrageous amount for an air
purifier until you compare a few key options. Just one Ecoquest
Air Purifier can purify the air in a home or office up to 3000
square foot. Some name brand competitors can only purify rooms
of 100 to 300 square foot at an average cost of about $200 per
unit. You may need greater units at a cost of $200 per unit to
actually clean the air in your whole house compared to one
Ecoquest unit that can do the whole house.

Applications of an Ecoquest Air Purifiers meet or exceed those
of other name brand air purifiers according to my own personal
test and those of 2 of my assoicates. The Ecoquest Air Purifiers
remove toxic mold and mildew, eliminate dust mites, remove toxic
odors, eliminate bad odors and reduce allergens in the air like
pollen as wells as eliminating second hand smoke.

In my home application I put the Ecoquest Air Purifier into a
room with 2 pieces of antique furniture that I purchased at an
auction. To my dismay I found out after the pieces were
delivered that they came from a home littered with too many
cats. The furniture had a terrible odor from cat urine. A friend
suggested I take the Ecoquest Air Purifier into the room, shut
the door and let it run on full blast for a day or two. At this
point I was willing to try anything to salvage my furniture.
After 3 days the antiques stopped smelling and were moved into
my home.

Another friend of mine had 3 name brand air purifiers in their
tiny 1000 square foot home. They tried an Ecoquest Air Purifier
and expressed to me their immediate satisfaction. Their house no
longer sounded like a wind tunnel. Their daughter who suffers
from terrible allergies was sleeping easier at night. The name
brand units were put into the garage and they gladly paid the
premium price for the Ecoquest Unit.

Another associate has expressed to me that they can’t live
without their Ecoquest Air Purifier. She suffered from
migraines. Her children suffered from allergies and her husband
snored so loudly that it kept her awake at night. Upon
installing the unit and adjusting the settings she found that
after a week the children were no longer on allergy medications,
her husband’s snoring had stopped and she had not had a migraine
since the unit was installed.

There is a school of thought that the ozone technology used in
the machine could be harmful but that theory has not been
proven. All in all if you weigh the pros being top air
purification and odor elimination vs the cons being the price of
the unit I think the Ecoquest Air Purifier is a valid option for
home air purification.

Mangosteen and Antioxidants

Mangosteen and Antioxidants

Mangosteen is possibly one of the most important fruits on the
face of the planet. Not only is its sweet taste uniquely
pleasant, but mangosteen is exponentially high in extremely
important vitamins, minerals, and most importantly, antioxidants.

The Whys, Whats, and Hows of Antioxidants

We’ve all heard for years that our body needs antioxidants to
stay strong and healthy. But how many of us actually know what
they are, why we really need them, and how we can incorporate
the right amount into our daily diet?

Mangosteen, in particular, contains very powerful antioxidants
also called xanthones. In recent scientific studies, researchers
found the xanthones contained in mangosteen to be uniquely
potent in their ability to eradicate dangerous free-radicals in
the body.

So what are antioxidants?

Scientifically put, antioxidants are chemicals that hinder the
production and release of free radicals. Although our body
produces them naturally and for a purpose, overabundances of
free radicals in our systems pose a great danger. They are
causative factors in many types of cancer, atherosclerosis
(hardening of the arteries), liver damage, and emphysema, among
other diseases.

Free radicals are, at their core, typically an O2, or oxygen
structure. While they can help fight off infection, if they
become oxidized (which is what they “want” to be, as a form of
oxygen) and are left with free reign of the body, your health
could be in jeopardy.

Antioxidants play their part by performing a cleaning-up
function for the body, capturing and harmlessly allowing free
radicals to pass through the system without harm.

So if antioxidants help rid our bodies of these sometimes
harmful cellular emissions, it’s important to keep our diet rich
in foods and beverages such as mangosteen with high antioxidant
levels.

The term “antioxidant” actually refers to several organic
matters, which includes vitamins A, C, and E, as well as
selenium and beta-carotene. In addition, researchers have
discovered a new classification of antioxidants, called
xanthones. Among the xanthones found in the mangosteen fruit,
alpha-mangostin and gamma-mangostin are two of the most powerful
antioxidants that science has classified.

Why do we need antioxidants?

As mentioned, antioxidants play a very important role in the
prevention of cancer and other dangerous diseases by
neutralizing and eliminating free radicals from the body.

Not only does your body make its own free radicals on a regular
basis, but they are picked up constantly in the form of tobacco
smoke, alcohol, breathing polluted air, eating processed foods,
or even water pollutants.

When you exercise, free radicals are produced by your body.

And your body produces free radicals whenever you are ill — the
extended major the illness, the in addition free radicals are produced.

Not only that, but our bodies pick up free radicals just through
the radiation from being in the sunlight.

If left in an unspoiled and natural environment, our bodies may
be able to cope with the amount of free radicals they produce on
their own own, in terms of daily function, exercise, or fighting
illness. But when you add to it the increasing amount of water
and air pollution as well as consumption of processed foods,
it’s no wonder cancer rates have risen.

In addition, most diets are severely lacking in terms of foods
that are rich with the powerful antioxidants our bodies require
to cope with these outside influences.

Simply put, because of our increasing unnatural exposure to free
radicals, our bodies require innumerable antioxidants than they have in
the past to stop the propagation and mutation of cancerous cells.

Xanthones, like those found in the mangosteen, work with the
body to absorb and thoroughly halt any damage that free radicals
may do. Studies have shown that the protective and positive
functions of xanthones may even be of larger help in fighting
cancer than most of the prescription medications.

How do you know you’re getting the right amount of antioxidants?

Antioxidant supplementation is a big industry, and there are
multitudes of vitamin and mineral supplements available that
offer extra support in terms of antioxidation. However, simply
taking a vitamin high in antioxidants will never protect your
body in the same way natural foods high in these protective
properties do.

Vitamins and supplements should not be used as a substitution
for a healthy, well-rounded diet. But because our lives are fresh
hectic than they have been in the past, it may be difficult to
simply eat the allotted amount of necessary foods to keep your
body as healthy as it should be.

And in terms of supplementation, the nonpareil way to make sure
you’re getting the right kinds of antioxidants and vitamins is
to keep your intake as natural as possible.
