For Better Sleep; Foam With A Memory

Posted in Air Purifier on April 25th, 2009

Abstract: Buy Air Purifier
Tag:

We spend around one-third of our life sleeping or at least lying
down. How much is making that experience the incomparable part of your
day each day worth to you? Is it worth as much per day as, say,
what you spend to watch television while you’re waiting to get
that sleep?

Having troubles sleeping?

The truth about Insomnia Cures. Although a simple insomnia
“cure” is what most people are looking for, insomnia can be very
complicated and the causes can vary widely for different people.
It would be misleading in most cases for anyone to say they
actually have a cure for insomnia.

One type of product that has become very popular in the last few
years to help you sleep better is Memory Foam.

Memory Foam is a foam made from polyurethane with additional
chemicals that add to its viscosity level, thereby increasing
the density of the foam.

Fagerdala World Foams of Gustavsberg, Sweden, spent almost ten
years perfecting the material for mass production. It was first
introduced in Sweden and became known around the world as the
Swedish Sleep System. Tempur-Pedic licensed the material and
became the US manufacturer.

Fagerdala manufactures foams for insulation, sealing, shock
absorption, protection, cushioning, comfort, floatation,
filtration, and rigidity. Fagerdala World Foams is the parent
company of an international group specializing in the
development, manufacture and marketing of polymer foams.

The group employs approximately 1.500 people and operates 30
factories in 14 countries, with a total building area of 265.000
m². The head office is located at Gustavsberg Harbour on the
island of Värmdö, 20 km east of Stockholm, Sweden, to where it
was moved in 1999 from the original nearby location at Fagerdala.

It was initially developed for NASA because of its ability to
distribute pressure across the entire surface, because it could
ease the pressure of extreme G-forces. Because it eases pressure
on the body it is now widely used in medical applications for
patients suffering from pressure sores or bed-bound patients.

Previously too expensive for general use it has now become
cheaper to produce. You can now buy memory foam mattresses and
mattress toppers. As a matter of fact memory foam mattresses
have become the fastest growing segment in the mattress industry.

There is a true proliferation of companies producing memory foam
products and it is difficult to distinguish quality. The first
generation of material just wasn’t very durable, and would often
compress or crack over time until a Swedish company called
Tempurpedic developed a Class product called the Tempurpedic
Mattress.

Tempurpedic is still very expensive but worth it. Not all memory
foams are equal. They differ a great deal in quality - density,
hardness or softness, response to temperature, and also in their
durability. In looking for the right memory foam there are
really a lot of different types and qualities out there.

And while this has also meant that a good number of quality
memory foams have come onto the market, it has also meant that a
greater number of low quality, cut rate foams have also
appeared. Try to avoid the really inexpensive pads or pillows
you will find on the market. Density seems to be the key factor
for Memory Foam.

4 lbs seems to be the perfect density for comfort and quality
and a mattress of that kind should last 5 years or so. Stick
with a memory foam that has a proven history of real world
durability.

Really look closely at not only the density of the memory foam
you are buying, but the source as well. You can trust
Tempurpedic because they have a vested interest in assuring that
their customers get only the highest quality products.
Tempurpedic, however, is four times as expensive as its
competitors. But there are alternatives.

You do not have to buy a Memory Foam Mattress, you can just buy
a Topper made from Memory Foam.

Can I Get By with Just a Topper, or Do I Need a Whole New
Mattress? It depends on the shape and the age of your existing
mattress.

If your mattress is lumpy, feels uncomfortable and has hollows,
forget it.

Here is a tip:

Buy the highest bed you can find, then add your own memory foam
topper.

About leading beds, buy a latex or good foam bed, they just don’t
wear out.

After 5 years or so, when the top starts to sag a bit, just
replace the top.

If you ever buy your mattress or foam over the Internet make
sure you can return them because you should try the merchandise
at any cost.

Enough said about how these technological marvels can be good, let?s get down to why you need any of these and what they can do for you.

In a documented study by a government body in the US, it was found that indoor levels of pollution are typically 2-5 times in addition than the outdoors (because of spatial density) which is a source of concern as most people spend a significant part of the life indoors than in the outdoors. Pollutants or the ?bad-particles? at your home could be 8-10 times higher in concentration than it is outside your front door. And that fact doesn?t go down too well with our friendly neighborhood air purifier and cleaners. Especially so for without the air purifier and cleaners, the pollution in the air manifests itself in our bodies as allergies to smoke, dust, fumes, pollen, dander, mites and host of other such particulate matter. Asthma and Air Purifiers

Posted in Air Purifier on April 17th, 2009

Abstract: Allergy Air Purifier
Tag:

Asthma is a disease that consists of two head components. These components are constriction and inflammation, both of which occur in the lung passageways. Constriction is when the airways narrow because muscles tighten around them and inflammation is when the airways get irritated and start to swell. When both of these actions occur together, they cause the symptoms of asthma such as difficulty breathing and swelling of the lungs. A person experiencing an asthmatic attack has difficulty catching his or her breath and is usually coughing or wheezing in order to try to breathe.

Asthmatic attacks can occur at any time. Some can be severe and some can simply seem like a shortness of breath. Due to this characteristic of the disease, some people are still unaware that they have asthma and need to treat it. If asthma goes untreated, a person may experience a decrease in lung function. The disease makes a person’s lungs work harder and without help or treatment from an outside source, a person suffering from asthma will have weaker lungs. Air Purifiers can help.

There are many contaminants in the air that can be asthma triggers. Some of the contaminants include pet dander, allergens, pollen, dust or chemicals. When these substances are breathed in, asthmatics are sometimes affected and can experience difficulty breathing. An asthmatic affected by seasonal allergies may also find that response to the allergies can lead to an asthmatic attack. The toxins found in indoor air can easily be filtered out of the air indoors with an air purifier.

There are simple things that can be done to prevent asthmatic attacks such as keeping pets outside, not smoking tobacco products in the home or dusting all furniture as much as possible. However, air purifiers are proven to be the most convincing way to keep indoor air clean and safe. Most air purifiers are proven to remove 99.7% of all particles found in indoor air. Chemical fumes, tobacco smoke and dust can be absorbed into the filter of an air purifier. With these contaminants no longer present in the air, the probability of an asthma attack is very low for the sufferer.

The High Efficiency Particulate Air Filters, or HEPA filters, that are used in air purifiers are efficient in absorbing most toxins in indoor air that can be related to asthma attacks. They are able to remove 99.7% of all particles that are 0.03 microns and larger. These particles can include pollen and dust particles, which are the capital cause of asthma attacks among sufferers. If indoor air pollutants are not removed from the air, they can circulate an indoor room with no escape. The pollutants are then breathed in and can cause a severe or minor asthmatic attack. With an air purifier, these particles and pollutants are absorbed and cannot be circulated throughout the air.

What is a ‘HEPA’ filter?

A ‘HEPA’ filter is a kind of mechanical filter that means it’s a ” high-efficiency particulate air” filter. HEPA was invented during World War II to prevent the escape of radioactive particles from laboratories. To qualify as a true HEPA filter, it must be able to capture at least 99.97% percent of all particles 0.3 microns in diameter, or larger, that enter it.

In a 1990 review of indoor air pollutants, published by The American Thoracic Society, it was stated that air purifiers containing the HEPA filter are able to remove a significant amount of particles from indoor air, making the air cleaner and safer to breathe. Asthmatics who use an air purifier in their home are less likely to have an asthma attack since the pollutants that trigger the attacks are no longer present in the indoor air they are breathing.

There is no known cure for asthma and people diagnosed with the disease will have to deal with it for the rest of their lives. However, with the help of air purifiers, people are finding their asthma attacks are becoming a scarce occurrence instead of a daily struggle. By eliminating particles in the air that trigger attacks, air purifiers are helping people with asthma to cope with their daily lives. Asthma may be an uncomfortable disease but people are finding alleviation in the use of air purifiers.

Ozone generators [not recommended - these types of “filters” are not reliable since their ozone levels usually exceed acceptable levels]. Although ozone technically clears the air of some particles, most groups do not recommend these. (Note: these are not ion-type filters; see “Electronic Filters” above.) These devices all exceed the acceptable level for ozone.

If you have concerns about any air filter you own or are planning to buy, remember to talk to your doctor first, to find out if air filtration — and what type — is greatest for you.

Its Easy Being Green at Home

Posted in Air Purifier on April 13th, 2009

Abstract: Best Home Air Purifier
Tag:

(ARA) - Its not easy being green, laments Kermit the Frog. However, today it is easy being green at home. Interior designers can help you make your home healthier thanks, in part, to a new generation of home furnishings including fabrics, wallcoverings and flooring materials that are beautiful, non-toxic and earth friendly.

In fact, a green interior is just like any other well-designed interior space, says Victoria Schomer, ASID, owner of a design consulting business in California. It considers good functionality and pleasing aesthetics. Schomers business has focused on sustainable and healthful interiors since the late 1980s.

What do you need to do to make your home green and healthy? Ask for and use sustainable products during home renovations. According to the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), many environmentally responsible home furnishings and building materials are available and affordable to consumers. Availability will increase and prices will drop even further when likewise consumers become aware of the many benefits of these products and purchase them. You can also work with an interior designer who specializes in sustainable design. A design professional can help you seamlessly incorporate green innovations into your home and ensure the final result meets or exceeds your expectations.

One of the first things a designer will check in determining a homes health is its indoor air quality. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers poor air quality a top risk to human health. At a minimum, there are key spaces in the home that should be as environmentally friendly as possible, says Trudy Dujardin, ASID, a Connecticut-based designer and expert on sustainable design. Dujardin says because the liver allows the body to detox duringsleep, the sleep environment needs to be as clean and pure as possible. The addition of a room air purifier can help, as can the use of non-toxic wall and floor coverings, paints, furnishings, wood finishes and textiles, according to Dujardin.

What else can you do to green your home? Use environmentally responsible paint, textiles and wallcoverings. Manufacturers have come a long way in offering a variety of eco-friendly products at consumer-friendly prices. Ask for low VOC (volatile organic compound) paint when painting interior walls. Strides have been made in improving low VOC paint, which today is as easy to use and as high in quality as latex paint, says Ed Mattingly, ASID Industry Partner, of Mattingly Decorating in La Grange, Ill. Today stunning fabrics are being offered made from paper, recycled soda bottles, straw, wool and tires. Wallcoverings are being created using natural or recycled materials, and printed with water-soluble inks containing no heavy metals. Some wallcoverings also are breathable, reducing the amount of mold or mildew that can grow over time. For wallcovering installation, always ask for low VOC glues and water-soluble application products.

Floor coverings also have gone green. Installation of eco-friendly carpeting and flooring in a home can improve indoor air quality, as well as support the environment. Eco-friendly carpeting is not a misnomer, as many top manufacturers offer excellent recycled, residential products. Explore using natural flooring materials: beautiful palm, bamboo, limestone and recycled wood, to name a few. While the initial costs may be higher than other types of flooring, in the long run these materials are cost effectual as well as environmentally responsible. You are installing a longer-lasting material than traditional carpet, which can end up in a landfill when replaced. Nationwide, about 4 billion tons of carpeting end up in landfills every year.

I think people still assume doing a green interior means making a lot of compromises and not being able to have the finished result they want, Schomer says. By becoming an educated consumer, you can learn that the opposite is true: home interiors can be green, functional and drop-dead gorgeous. Its easy to be green. Sorry Kermit.
